Performance Experience
Kayla holds extensive performance experience in a wide variety of groups and environments. Most recently, Kayla has been dancing as a member of the Star Dance Company at Oklahoma City University, where she has also held leadership roles as a line captain, swing, and rep company performer. Each year, the Star Dance Company puts on two main productions, the "Holiday Spectacular" and "Move! Dance for the World of Entertainment." At school, she is also a member of the Spirit of Grace Liturgical Dance Company, where she's had the opportunity to dance in chapel services and choreograph for the company.
Outside of OCU, Kayla has also recently performed in the Iowa Choreography Festival in works by Deanna Stanton and Sydney Markert.
As a high school student, Kayla engaged as a performer in as many ways as she could. Notably, she performed in 3 musicals and one play, including Iowa's first production of Disney's Frozen, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Radium Girls, and Once Upon a Mattress.
In addition to theatre, Kayla also enjoyed dancing annually in Iowa Dance Theatre's production of The Nutcracker and competitively as a soloist at her home dance studio.
While dancing, Kayla also competed in her school's varsity show choir and was highly involved in band and choir.
Training
Kayla's training began at the age of 5 at Iowa Ballet Academy. There, she trained in the styles of ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, and modern dance. She also danced in Iowa Dance Theatre and Yaro Dance Company productions and performed competition solos as a part of her studio's competition team. Additionally, Kayla explored new styles of dance while on her school's varsity dance team and continued training as a vocalist and actor in her school's theatre and vocal music departments.
Now, Kayla is training at Oklahoma City University, which is ranked as one of the best college dance programs in the country. As a dance and arts management major, she enjoys training in many styles of dance, such as tap, jazz, and ballet, and is a proud member of the Star Dance Company, Rep Company, and Spirit of Grace Liturgical Company. In addition to training as a dancer, she is also taking arts management and production courses, which have inspired her to discover a love and a deeper understanding for all aspects of entertainment productions.
